Stitched-The Film
Stitched is a fun-filled documentary following three quilters racing to complete their entries for the International Quilt Festival in Houston, the largest quilt show in the nation.
Quilting legend Caryl Bryer Fallert was the first to win a major prize for her quilt made with a sewing machine. She mentored Hollis Chatelain who caused a stir when she won an award for a painted quilt. And Hollis mentored Randall Cook who sparked controversy with his quilt of a male nude. In this 72-minute documentary, these quilters create their pieces to compete in the 2010 quilt show. Stitched reveals a story of friendship, passion and art. It also highlights the divide between traditional and art quilters. Other quilting rock stars including Ricky Tims are interviewed in this film. Karey Bresenhan, Nancy Puentes O’Bryant, Jake Finch, Meg Cox, Libby Lehman and Mark Lipinski also make appearances.

Vibrant colors, striking contrasts, use of value, as well as heavy machine quilting and embroidery distinguish Carol’s quilts. She has created over 500 quilts since she began quilting in 1993. Carol has won six “Best of Show” awards in her career…with six different quilts! Her lecture describes how to create work in a series, showing the process of how Carol made the 39 quilts in her Gong Series, and then went on to her Confetti, Linear, and Arc-i-Texture Series.

Carol will introduce and pass out drawings for 30-40 different quilting patterns not shown in the original Free Motion Quilting class. She will show you how to use “meandering” designs, “filler” designs and border designs. You will receive a class handout of many pages of Carol’s drawings to take home and use as ideas on your own quilts. Workshop
Carol Taylor-Arc-i-Textures
Thursday, October 11, 2012 Want to create a small (15 x 15) unique quilt of your very own and learn something about composition, textures, and circular quilting? Then this is the class for you! This is a chance to use some of those fancy and unusual fabrics that you’ve been attracted to, but didn’t know how to use. We will tame them by fusing, and learn to mix them with other textured looking fabrics. And you won’t need much of any one fabric…even scraps will do. You’ll learn a bit about composition and how to balance it with both color and size. You’ll learn about fusing and how to finish your quilts with facings as opposed to bindings. And Carol will also teach you how to quilt and couch those “perfect” circles that have almost become a trademark on her quilts. You’ll be thrilled with the resulting small quilt, which you can do in many different color schemes, and hang in your own home or give as a gift. Cost: $ 50.00.
