2 – Vintage Revisited Quilt Exhibit
3 – 7th Annual Quilters Treasure Fabric Challenge
4 – Gift of Life Donor Program

*************************************

1 – AQS – Kathi Iacovelli

AQS came to Lancaster for a second year and did not disappoint. After the growing pains of last year, it was evident that the feedback and suggestions from last year were taken into consideration. The shuttle system worked out so much better, with the bus drivers assisting those with lots of bags and heavy items

Having the coat check and raffle quilt in separate areas seemed to work out well, with many people having their photos taken in front of our beautiful quilt, including myself and my Canadian Facebook friends.

The Red Sash (RRQG) ladies and gentlemen were everywhere!!

Kathy Retherford and her husband Mouse

They really had their work cut out for them. I was really surprised at the number of people that do not respect the signage to not touch the quilts. AQS could not do this without the Red Rose Quilters Guild volunteers. Kudos to Beth, Jean, and Vicki for pulling this all together.

Photo courtsey of Kathi Iacovelli

For me, the best part of the show was definitely the world class teachers that come with a professional organization like AQS. Sue Nichols taught me to love raw edge appliqué and Karen Kay Buckley gave me tips for paper piecing and using clear monofilament thread for invisible machine appliqué. Ricky Tims was quite entertaining both in his lecture and with a concert on Friday night.

Three guild members had quilts juried into the show. No ribbons this time but the quilts competed with the best of the best in the open displays.

2 – Vintage Revisited Quilt Exhibit – Linda Harvey

This exhibit was held at the Lancaster Host March 16th – 19th.

The exhibit was curated by Mary Kerr who is an award winning quilter and a certified AQS appraiser. Vintage blocks were given to 19 women who then created a new quilt using the blocks. The instructions were that “They can add to it, cut it up, embellish it, recreate it, improve upon it and more.”

I really enjoyed looking at the results that these quilt artists achieved. Each one is truly a work of art. I was also thrilled to see some of my favorite quilt artists’ work in person!

4 – Gift of Life Donor Program – Jeanne Riley

A plea for quilters to help has come in from our website from Lara Moretti of the Gift of Life Donor Program in Philadelphia. She provides grief counseling and bereavement support to the families whose loved ones died and became organ or tissue donors. Each year they have a Remembrance Ceremony where families bring in quilt squares they have made in memory of their loved one. The squares are assembled into Threads of Love Memorial Quilts. To date, they have 23 such quilts with 25 squares on each quilt. They rely on volunteers to assemble and quilt them. The quilts are either on display in their building or used at their many educational and community outreach events. To see some of the squares and a photo of one of their quilts, please go to http://www.donors1.org/donors/quilts/.

Lara will provide the fabric, muslin, batting and all the squares. She would like to find some quilters willing to assemble the blocks, do some minimal quilting, and finish the edges. If you are interested in helping her with this project, here are her coordinates:
